Van oorsprong aanvoerder van een groep plunderende Noormannen. Hij plunderde van 923-26 de streek rond de Loire. Lodewijk IV weet hem voor zich te winnen en maakt hem Graaf van Roucy. Hij bouwde in 948-949 de burcht Roucy. In 966 werd hij door de paus geexcommuniceerd.
