Notes about Aleidis Regentes van Holland (1258-1263)

Aleidis vestigde zich na 1257 in Holland. In 1258 wordt zij Regentes van Holland en Zeeland voor haar minderjarige neef Graaf Floris V. Zij doet verwoede pogingen een evenwicht te zoeken naar de tegenstellingen tussen de Zeeuwse en Hollandse adel. De zeeuwse adel is haar het meest toegedaan, waarop de hollandse edelen Graaf Otto II van Gelre tot Regent uitroepen op 22.1.1263. Aleidis' bezittingen worden geconfisceerd, maar FlorisV stelt haar op 24.10.1268 te Brugge schadeloos. Ca. 1262 kocht zij het dijkdorp Schiedam, bouwt daar het kasteel Huis te Riviere en sticht er een kerk. Schiedam wordt meermaals door begunstigd en op 18.3.1275 verleende zij het dorp stadsrechten.
