    Op 1-4-'45 des morgens vroeg toen hij nabij Takilin een 30 km N.O. van Chungkai aan de spoorlijn werkzaam was met een groep Nederlandse en Engelse krijgsgevangenen, verscheen boven die plaats enige Engelse bommenwerpers om de spoorlijn te bombarderen. Toen ze merkten dat er krijgsgevangenen aan de spoorlijn werkten, cirkelden ze enige malen rond om hen de gelegenheid te geven zich te bergen. De Jappen lieten dit tenslotte toe na te lang dralen. Met het gevolg dat enige gevangenen, waaronder Engel von Ende, door de scherven werden getroffen. Zijn linkerbeen werd afgerukt, hij stierf door te veel bloedverlies. Deze gegevens kreeg ik van de heer W.P. Broekema die een mede-gevangene was en hem heeft bijgestaan tot het laatste toe.
