Jan van Helden koopt in 1718 de herberg ‘daer de Swaen uythangt’ van Arien Gijsbertsz en Annetge Cornelisse, die deze herberg ooit gekocht hadden van Jurriaen Baers. Dit was een oude herberg in Rhenen, die reeds in de middeleeuwen genoemd wordt. Deze stond ‘aent Hoff ’, op de noordoosthoek van de Lange Herenstraat en de Dootstraat (huidige Torenstraat).
