JOHANNA MERKX, weduwe van Willem van der

Meulen, kreeg in januari 1784 te Sint-Oedenrode een onwettig kind.

Tijdens de zwangerschap woonde zij te Stratum op de Heijhoeff als

huishoudster van Marten Gillissen. Diens buurman, de ongehuwde

GODEFRIDUS VERSTAPPEN, noemde zij als vader. Toen deze in ondertrouw

trad met Peeternel Konings, hield zij de huwelijksproclamaties op.

Wilde hij haar niet trouwen, dan verlangde zij een dote van fl. 200,

fl. 30 voor de kraamkosten en een alimentatie van fl. 40 per jaar.

Verstappen ontkende van dien imborst [te zijn] om huijshoudsters van

andere vriendelijkheden te betoonen, veel min om hen geijlige lusten

te amplecteeren. Na de bevalling had Johanna zich te Boxtel
