De gep. luitenant-generaal der artillerie E.J. de Bock wordt 27 dezer 85 jaar.
Geboren 27 Juli 1858 hier ter stede, werd hij Juli 1879 tweede luitenant bij de 1e afdeeling der vesting artillerie.
Als kapitein werd hij 16 Januari 1907 directeur der Artilerieschietschool: hetzelfde jaar volgde zijn promotie tot majoor: 1 Mei 1911 werd hij luit-kolonel bij het 3e regiment veldartillerie. 15 Juni 1913 kolonel en werd hij op verzoek op non-activiteit gesteld.
26 januari 1914 trad hij weer in actieven dienst als kolonel van het 3e regiment veldartillerie. 1 Mei 1917 werd hij generaal-majoor en commandant der stelling van 't Hollandsch Diep en het Volkenrak, als zoodanig hij tevens bevelhebber in de 3e militaire afdeling was.
Twee jaar later werd hij op verzoek eervol ontslagen. 26 Augustus 1920 werd hem de titulaire rang van luit-generaal verleend.
Generaal de Bock is ridder van de Oranje Nassau Orde. (Het Vaderland 24-7-1943)
