Frans first worked as a carpenter on the Roxburgh Hydro Electricity dam wall construction. Then he worked as a carpenter nearby Lake Wanaka where he met Lorna while she was a waitress on a working holiday at the hotel. After they married in Australia they both moved back to New Zealand and bought a house in Benhar. They moved back to Australia some time before 1964.
