Rijnder ging als dertienjarige jongen naar zee en begon zijn loopbaanbij zijn broer Cornelis. Als zijn broer van schip wisselt krijgt hij alsstuurman kapitein T.W. Dekker; zij zijn zeer goede vrienden en als ookRijnder de tijdens een zeer zware s

tortzee overboord geslagen kapiteinnog net bij zijn haren uit het water kan trekken. De dag van dewonderbaarlijke redding werd nog vaak op Terschelling verhaald.

Rijnder wordt kapitein op de bark "IJmuiden" (1895 - 1902). We zien dathij erg gesteld is op een Terschellinger bemanning. Op een van de reizenzijn de bemanningsleden op een na ��n na allemaal afkomstig van Schylge.In 1903 zegt hij de grote zeilv

aart vaarwel en heeft geen behoefteverder te gaan in de stoomvaart. Hij vaart nog vele jaren met zijnbeurtschip tussen Terschelling en Harlingen.
