Victor Hugo "Vic" van Olden, 88, was op dinsdag 23 mei 2017 bij de Heer in zijn huis in Charlotte, NC na een kort ziekbed.
Victor, zoon van Albert Johan van Olden en Catharina Wilhelmina Geertruida Dumas, is geboren als Nederlander op 11 januari 1929 in Soerabaja, Oost-Java, Nederlands-Indië.

Naast zijn ouders werd hij in de dood voorafgegaan door zijn geliefde vrouw van 48 jaar, Nancy Eileen Gareiss.
Hij werd ook voorafgegaan door broers en zussen, Dorothea Johanna "Pietje-Piet" van Olden, Ida Geertruida "Adeh" van Olden, Albert Everhard "Bertie" van Olden, Frederique Henriette "Jetty" van Olden, Willem Rudolf "Rudy" van Olden, Willem Paul "Wim" van Olden

In zijn tienerjaren, tijdens WOII, werd hij gevangengezet door de Japanners. Na de oorlog bevrijdden geallieerden het kamp en emigreerde Vic terug naar Haarlem. Gesponsord door de Lutherse Kerk emigreerde hij later met zijn broer Rudy naar Ft Wayne, Indiana, in januari 1957. Hij werkte zijn hele professionele carrière bij Lincoln National Bank als auditor en stockroommanager. Hier ontmoette hij zijn vrouw, Nancy.
Vic, vloeiend in verschillende talen en altijd snel met een grap, was een multi-getalenteerde
man. Hij genoot van het verzamelen van zeldzame postzegels en munten; vooral vuurtorens zoals hij hield van wat ze symboliseerden - een belangrijk en vergeten monument dat zeilers veilig door ruw water helpt.
Hij hield van schilderen, bowlen, golfen, vissen en tennissen.
Hij was een fervent bridgespeler, dierenliefhebber en autodidact gitarist. In zijn vrije tijd keek hij graag naar The Lawrence Welk Show, westerns en luisterde hij naar Country- en Big Band-muziek.
Hij wordt overleefd door zijn dochter, Julie van Olden van
Charlotte; zijn zoon, Michael van Olden van Charlotte; zijn broer, Johan "Joop" van Olden uit Los Angeles, CA; zijn schoonzus, Janet Cupp-Weir (Jack) uit Rochester Hills, MI; kleinkinderen, Michael Roper, Kathryn Roper Lombardi (Peter), Jordan Roper en Matthew Roper; vele andere familieleden en vrienden. In plaats van bloemen kunnen herdenkingsbijdragen worden gestuurd naar Novant Hospice en Palliatieve Zorg
of uw eigen lokale Hospice.

Oom Vic liet me een mandoline zien die hij had op oma en opas zolder in hun huis in Haarlem. Ik plukte weg bij de snaren en herinner me dat ik van dat geluid en de vibratie van de snaren hield. Het was zeker die eerste ervaring met een snaarinstrument dat me in de liefde van het gitaarspelen bracht. Bijgevolg is mijn leven verrijkt door muziek en voortdurend een grote passie geweest.... Allemaal omdat mijn oom Vic zijn mandoline met mij deelde. Bedankt oom Vic en moge je vrede vinden.
