Notes about Lourens Gerritsz. van der Meulen

Glazenmaker; glasschilder

Op 31-10-1695 wordt Lourents van der Meulen als glazenmaker ingeschreven bij het St.Lucasgilde te Alkmaar. Volgens de gilde-administratie zou hij zijn overleden op 15-07-1711.
Lourens heeft in de loop van de tijd verschillende leerlingen die hij het vak bijbrengt; in 1703 Jan de Lachambre, in 1704 Jan Peerboom en in 1708 Jan Knul.
P.J.Glasz. stelt in zijn publicatie "Voormalige Glasschilderingen zoo te Alkmaar als door Alkmaar elders geschonken" dat Laurens van der Meulen in 1705/1706 zeven ramen voor de Kapel te Alkmaar heeft gemaakt in opdracht van het stadsbestuur. De Burgemeesters geven hem op 08-12-1705 opdracht om op het middelste glas het wapen van de stad aan te brengen en op de ramen aan weerszijden hiervan de wapens van de edelachtbare heren Hendrik Brand, Floris van Teylingen, Leonard Ras en Mr.Johan Baert. Hij zou hiervoor een honorarium van ruim 410 gulden hebben ontvangen.
Lourens van der Meulen koopt op 22-02-1707 van Theodorus Heijmenbergh een pand aan de zuidzijde van de Langestraat voor 750 gulden.
Op 27-12-1709 koopt Lourens een huis met erf gelegen aan de oostzijde van de Boterstraat voor 200 gulden. Zijn weduwe Annetje Harmanus verkoopt het pand op 29-12-1711 voor 150 gulden aan Laurens Delkoert.
