Tijdens de oorlog op 15 augustus 1944 werd Ceciel ingedeeld bij de Gemeentelijke Luchtbeschermings verbindingsdienst van Dieren Zie foto 18 en 19. Zij was toen 20 jaar.

Cilia werd ook naar de ULO gestuurd, maar nu naar een katholieke in Doesburg. Ze heeft geen diploma gehaald. Omdat ze handig was en aardig kon tekenen kwam een naaischool in het vizier. Die school lag schuin tegenover ons huis aan de Hogestraat en daar startte ze een opleiding tot coupeuse. Nadat ze die opleiding succesvol voltooide, vervolgde ze op dezelfde school haar opleiding tot lerares-coupeuse. Haar directrice, juffrouw Broers, vroeg Cilia na haar eindexamen om bij haar als lerares in dienst te treden. Dat is gebeurd. Onder de Doesburgse leerlingen aan deze school was ook Ada van Everdingen. In de middagpauze kwam Ada met een groepje soms ’s middags bij ons thuis haar brood opeten. Via Ada leerde Cilia Domien kennen en die kennismaking leidde tot een huwelijk dat op 2 mei 1950 in Dieren (kerkelijk) werd gesloten. Intussen had Domien een niet meer actieve manufacturenzaak in Delden kunen overnemen waar ze zich na hun huwelijk vestigden. Oorspronkelijk lag het in de bedoeling dat Domien firmant zou worden in een lederbedrijf. Vader van Everdingen had kort tevoren een oude kennis ontmoet, directeur/eigenaar van het bedoelde bedrijf. Ze kwamen overeen dat Domien zou worden ingekocht voor f. 25.000,--. Nadat bedrag was gestort werd niet lang daarna het bedrijf failliet verklaard. Weg inkoopsom en op zoek naar iets anders. Dat werd Delden.
De winkel werd snel opgestart. Domien zette allereerst het vanouds in deze zaak gevoerde assortiment voort, waaronder matrassen en vloerbedekkingen een voorname plaats innamen, terwijl Cilia zich al snel ging toeleggen op verkoop van kleding.stoffen waaraan ze koppelde het patroonknippen van de verkochte stof. De zaak floreerde en na verloop van tijd werd het assortiment aangepast aan de smaak en behoefte van een jongere klantengroep. Het was hard werken en dat in een huisvesting die wat comfort betrof sterk afweek van wat beiden gewend waren geweest De eerste verbouwingen en woonaanpassingen vonden al snel plaats. De grote achterkamer kwam vrij en de keuken werd verplaatst naar de opkamer. De “ton” maakte na enige tijd plaats voor een heuse wc! Er volgde meer verbouwingen: vergroting van de winkel, renovatie van de bovenverdieping en uitbreiding daarvan met een te verhuren woonetage.
Bij die laatste verbouwing vond Domien een kasboek uit de Napoleontische tijd. Daarop was hij trots Het boek heeft enige tijd een opvallende plaats gehad in een etalage.
Toen de bevolking mobieler werd en ze gemakkelijker de omliggende grote steden konden bereiken liep de omzit van de zaak terug. In die periode kon Domien, ik meende zo rond 1985, gebruik maken van een saneringsregeling voor het kleinbedrijf. Dat deed hij en dat leidde, na een leegverkoop, tot sluiting van de winkel. Daarna konden ze genieten van veel vrije tijd. De mogelijkheid om het hele pand voor een aantrekkelijk bedrag te verkopen deed hen omzien naar een andere woonplek. Dat werd Duiven. Ziekte en ongemak noopten hen uiteindelijk te vertrekken naar een verzorgingshuis. Het werd IJsselzicht in Doesburg, waar Cilia en Domien in 2007 zijn overleden, Domien ruim een half jaar na Ceciel.
