Abram Leenhouts, 94, one of the early settlers here, died September 3 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Kryn Schuller. Until his fall a week previous, he had been up and around in the home.
He was born at Vlaanderen, the Netherlands, near the Belgium border, on November 13, 1850. At the age of 18, he came to the United States, locating at Marion, N.Y. Here at Alton, on October 1, 1871, he married Johanna Cambier. Three children were born to the couple, one dying in infancy. They came to Alton 62 years ago, and farmed three miles south of Alton for some years, later moving to town to live with Mr. and Mrs. Kryn Schuller. Mrs. Leenhouts died 25 years ago, in 1920.
Surviving are two children, Peter Leenhouts, and Mrs. Kryn Schuller, both of Alton.
Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon, with Rev. Hesselink officiating.
