  • (Accomplishment) : As were his brothers he was an excellent farmer, an expedition leader and an explorer into the interior. He lived in Rondebosch on a farm called De Grendel and Zeekoevaleij, along the western bank of the Olifants River. Reports of gold and copper in the interior north of the Orange River spurred Willem to take an expedition to explore these rumours, after receiving permission from the cape Government and with the proviso he made a report on his return.The expedition set off towards Keetmanshoop, with several other men joining it along the way. Gold was not discovered but copper was found.
  • He died on March 11, 1806, he was 49 years old.
