Janet's notes included the following, '...eerste bewoner van Welgegund, distrik Paarl wat hy verkry het van Goewerneur van Plettenberg op 6 Maart 1780, hy verhuis later na Graaff-Reinet. 'asks for the grant of a plot of ground in the Wagonmaker's Valley, named Welgegund. Diagram annexed and statement of L. and H.H. that the nearest neighbours, viz., Josua Joubert, Philip Minnaar, and the widow Carel van der Merwe have no objection.' No 38, dated, 19th May 1780. [Precis of the Archives of the Cape of Good Hope p777]...'
