Koos had een levensmiddelenbedrijf in Boskoop maar omdat het boerenleven trok emigreerde hij in 1952 met zijn gezin naar Canada. Na de eerste moeilijke jaren werd in 1958 een boerderij gehuurd. 14 jaar van hard werken en goed boeren maakte het mogelijk om een nieuw huis te bouwen en als hobby licht werk te gaan doen.
