Notes about Pieter Ploeg

Pieter Ploeg vertrok op 14-11-1785 als matroos vanuit Goeree voor de VOC kamer van Delft met het VOC schip "de Horssen" naar Indië. Het schip kwam op 13-2-1786 aan op de kaap en vertrok daar op 2-3-1786 om op 30-5-1786 in Batavia aan te komen.
Op 10-7-1786 vertrekt de Horssen vanuit Batavia en zelde naar de Chinese zee. Op 17-1-1787 vertrekt het schip uit China en komt op 11-5-1787 aan op de Kaap van waar zij op 10-6-1787 weer vertrekken om op 23-8-1787 in Goeree aan te komen.
Volgens het scheepsjournaal werd hij op 4-9-1787 van "de Horssen", dat voor de Kamer Delft, voer afgedankt. (teruggekeerd en afgemonsterd.) Op 27-11-1787 vertrok Pieter weer naar de oost. Dit maal met het VOC schip "Recht door Zee". Het schip kwam op 20-8-1788 aan in Batavia. Als datum einde van de verbintenis staat vermeld 23-1-1793 wegens overlijden in Azië. Tot de taken van een matroos behoorde de waak- en roergang, het laden en lossen, het reinigen, teren en kalfaten van het schip, het af- en aanslaan van de zeilen en het helpen van de onderofficieren.
Kalfaten is het afdichten van naden tussen houten planken met mos, pek, hennep etc.
