Op de hoek van de Kleiweg en de Kleiwegstraat (te Gouda) ligt een Stolperstein voor Nathan Jacob Cats (47). Zijn vrouw en drie kinderen overleefden de oorlog.

Nathan Jacob Cats (47) werd op 28 november 1895 geboren in Gouda. Hij kwam uit een oude Joods-Goudse familie. Rachel Frenk-Cats van de Wilhelminastraat was zijn zuster.

Op 19 maart 1930 trouwde Nathan Jacob met de niet-Joodse Wilhelmina Johanna van der Noll. Ze kregen drie kinderen : Nathan Jacob, Ronni en Marianne Wilhelmina. Hier op de hoek, waar nu Bakker Bart gevestigd is, had Nathan Jacob zijn electriciteitswinkel. Boven de winkel woonde het gezin.

Nathans niet-Joodse vrouw en zijn kinderen ontsprongen de dans, hij werd weggevoerd. Op Jom Kippoer werd hij uit de synagoge gehaald door politieagent Arie Oudenaarden, net als Salomon Benjamin Gompers van de Wijdstraat. Nathan Jacob Cats werd gedeporteerd naar Westerbork en vermoord in Auschwitz op 26 januari 1943.

In mei 2011, een maand na de plaatsing van de Stolperstein voor zijn vader Nathan Jacob, kwam zijn kleindochter achter het bestaan van de gedenksteen in Gouda. Deze Stolperstein, die nu voor iedereen zichtbaar aan haar opa herinnert, heeft hij gelukkig nog kunnen zien.

Nathan Jacob Cats, Nathan genoemd, wordt op 28 november 1895 geboren in Gouda. Hij is de zoon van Aron Levy Cats en Marianne Blom. Nathan Cats is op 19 maart 1930 getrouwd met Wilhelmina van der Noll en zij wonen aan de Kleiweg 67 te Gouda. Het echtpaar krijgt twee zonen en een dochter en heeft een zaak in gereedschappen en elektriciteitsartikelen. De toekomst van Nathan lijkt in eerste instantie minder gevaar te lopen, omdat hij een arische vrouw heeft. Niets is echter minder waar gebleken. In december 1942 wordt Nathan op brute wijze uit zijn gezinsleven gescheurd, hij wordt door de politie gearresteerd en naar kamp Westerbork gedeporteerd. Hij wordt daar ondergebracht in barak 66. Vlak voor Kerstmis 1942 hebben zijn vrouw en oudste zoon warme kleding en een tas naar Nathan toegebracht.

Zij hebben de spulletjes aan de poort af moeten geven zonder hun man en vader ooit nog te hebben gezien. Op 22 januari 1943 heeft Nathan vanuit Westerbork nog een briefkaart kunnen sturen naar zijn gezin, 23 januari (de volgende dag dus) is Nathan op transport gesteld naar Auschwitz. Op 29 januari 1943 is Nathan Cats in Auschwitz vermoord. In 1992 heeft de oudste zoon, Nathan Jacob Cats, ter nagedachtenis aan zijn vader een herdenkingspagina op laten nemen in The Pages of Testimony van het Holocaust Museum ‘Yad Vashem’ te Jeruzalem, Israel.
