Notes about Barthlime Rodt

Als oudste zoon zal Barthlime junior bij zijn vader in het familiebedrijf gaan werken. Hij beoefend kennelijk gelijktijdig de beroepen molenaar, bakker en waard. Dit is geen ongebruikelijke combinatie. Hij woont in Moos. (Moos ofwel moeras. Een korte aanduiding voor een klein gebied inhet centrum van Speicher. Een gebied met mooie oude burgerhuizen. Een rij karaktervolle panden in het huidige dorp.)
Rond 1789 gaat Barthlime een buitenechtelijke relatie aan met Anna Maria Schläpfer, een nicht van zijn echtgenote Kathrina Schläpfer, met als resultaat een buitenechtelijk geboren dochter die op 13 december 1789 in Speicher wordt gedoopt. Dit overspel wordt zwaar opgevat door de overheid. Moeder Maria wordt veroordeeld tot gevangenisstraf in het plaatsje Hundwil. Barthlime moet forse boetes betalen. Uit de bedragen blijkt dat hij vermogend was. Barthlime geeft aan dat hij als vader voor het kind zal zorgen. Hij jaagd de overheid in het harnas door zich uit de voeten te maken. Dit resulteerd in het afnemen van zijn degen. Hij verliest daarmee (tijdelijk) zijn politieke rechten.
