Hij is van grote betekenis geweest voor het werk van de Algemene Nederlandse Invalidenbond, afd. 't Gooi. In het kader van de ledenwerving, als hoofd van het contactorgaan, bij het verkrijgen van faciliteiten voor invaliden in openbare gebouwen, aanpassing van woningen, en op het gebied van recreatie.
Ook was hij bijzonder actief en jarenlang voorzitter van "Herwonnen Levenskracht" ; de RK vereniging tot bestrijding van Tuberculose binnen het NKV.
Hij was zelf invalide tengevolge van kinderverlamming op 3 jarige leeftijd. [[ Hij heet Jan en geen Piet! ]]
