    Pieter was tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog de schipper van de KW 110.
    Op 29 augustus 1942 nam Grootveld ongewild op zijn schip enkele Engelandvaarders mee, die onderweg het schip kaapten en ermee naar Engeland voeren. Grootveld werd naar beneden gelokt en daar opgesloten en de V-Mann Johannes Albertus Dijkstra werd naar boven gelokt en daar overmeesterd. Na de verhoren in Engeland werd Grootveld verdacht van samenwerking met de Duitsers en werd met de V-mann naar de gevangenis op het eiland Man gestuurd. Na de oorlog werd Grootveld naar het Huis van Bewaring in Scheveningen overgebracht en later naar Amsterdam. Later werd hij toch onschuldig bevonden en vrijgelaten en enkele jaren later kreeg hij een schadevergoeding over de jaren van detentie in Nederland.
