Notes about Bouwina Huninga

----Bouwina was christened as Bouwe, but later the name was Bouwina although she herself also used Bouwijna.

----In 1698 Bouwina, not married, gave birth to a daughter Mara, the father of whom she married after some 2 years. Mara is in the Beerta baptism book as "het kindt van Bouwina Huninga nae haer voorgeven overgewonnen van Berent Melchers is genoemd Mara."

----Bouwina does not become a member of the church until April 3, 1704 and thus is not called to judgment of the church for her "bad behavior" as was customary. Even civil authorities often fined unmarried mothers, but her name does not appear in the registers, Her husband Berend Melchers, however, is fined 250 guilders between "petri" (2 Febr.) 1699 and petri 1700 for "wegens verscheidene begane delicten" (for various felonies). Maybe the illegitimate child was one of them? (A.Veldhuis).

----For many details about Bouwina and Bouwina's possessions, listed when her husbands died in order to decide properly about the inheritance see the article by Antonia Veldhuis in Huppeldepup 4(1):10-12 (1997) and in her booklet "Van Bouwe tot Bouwina."

Bouwina droeg in 1705 met haar man hun aandeel in de Huningaborg - verkregen na overlijden van broers - over aan haar zuster Senske en man

Over Bouwina.
