Notes about Jacobje Engberts Dalsma


n de nacht van 29 op 30 december 1802 trekt de bende van Jan Hut (van der Wijk) naar De Blesse, een buurtschap onder Blesdijke, waar ze rond middernacht arriveren bij de plaatselijke herberg aan de Heereweg. Dan overvallen ze de slapende herbergier en zijn vrouw: Otto Nicolaas Callé (Tresoar: Otte Nieklaas Calle) en Jacobje Engberts Dalsma. Het oudere echtpaar wordt zwaar mishandeld en vastgebonden aan handen en voeten. De dieven vertrekken met vijf zware zakken aan gestolen waar. In de ochtend van 30 december 1802 weet de 66-jarige Jacobje haar voeten los te wrikken. Ze strompelt naar de bakker Berend Gerrits, waar haar zoon Koene (uit een voorgaand huwelijk van Jacobje) werkt als knecht. Koene Luiten Pit, 29 jaar, is tevens executeur (ook eksteur = gerechtsdienaar met opsporingsbevoegdheid). Hij organiseert meteen een dievenjacht. In de nacht van 30 december 1802 overlijdt zijn stiefvader, de herbergier Otto Nicolaas Callé, aan zijn verwondingen. Vier van de vijf overvallers worden gearresteerd, berecht en opgehangen in 1803. Eén overvaller weet te ontsnappen uit de gevangenis.

Er zijn drie redenen waarom de bende van Jan Hut wordt gearresteerd:
a) Een getuige heeft gezien, dat de bendeleden de buit onderling verdelen.
b) Die getuige gaat naar het slachtoffer van de overval te De Blesse, Jacobje Engberts Dalsma. Koene Luiten Pit, de zoon van Jacobje Engbert Dalsma, organiseert meteen een dievenjacht.
c) Jacobje Engberts Dalsma heeft een fotografisch geheugen. Tot in detail beschrijft zij de inhoud van haar linnenkast, compleet met de in de kleding genaaide etiketten. Zij was een kroongetuige in de rechtszaak tegen de bende van Jan Hut.
