Notes about Barbara Zapolya

Barbara Z�polya (Trenc�n, 1495 � Krakau, 2 oktober 1515) was een dochter van de Hongaarse edelman Stefan Z�polya en de Poolse prinses Hedwig van Teschen. Barbara Z�polya was een jongere zuster van de latere koning van Hongarije J�nos Z�polya.

Z�polya werd in 1512, op aandringen van de Poolse adel, de eerste echtgenote van Sigismund I van Polen. Zij werd de moeder van Jadwiga Jagiello (1513-1573) en van Anna. Zij stierf na drie jaar. Na haar dood, gaf Sigismund opdracht voor de bouw van de Kapel van Sigismund in het kasteel op de Wawel, waar zij begraven werd.
