    According to the files of the Church of the Latter Day Saints, a Jeremiah Sandford was born about 1553 Leeds, Yorkshire, as son of John Sandford and Anne Griffith, and brother of John and Miles Sandford.

    John Sandford, husband of Anne Griffith, was son of Bryan Sandford and Anne Dixon, Anne Griffith was daughter of Nicholas Griffith.

    Another Jeremiah Sandiford was born 1574 Woodhouse, Lancashire, as son of Miles Sandiford, the same as above, and Alice Halefield. To the latter's family also belongs a certain Edward Sandiford, born 18-4-1602 Ashton-upon-Lyne, Lancashire, son of Ralph Soundiforth. The ultimate origins of the family are probably to be found in Norway, where we find the Sandefjord. A certain Richard de Sandiforth is mentioned in Wakefield near York, 1286.

    Jeremy Sandiforth (Kit#29354) b. about 1550 in England, moved to Ouddorp, South Holland about 1600. It has been speculated that he was amercenary who moved to Hollandto help protect the towns of Ouddorp and Goedereede that were oftenattacked. In 1600, of 132 military companies in the Dutch army only 17were composed of Dutch soldiers. Forty-three were English, 32 wereFrench, 20 were Scottish, 11 were Walloon and 9 were German. Jeremy'sarms in Ouddorp displays an armored arm holding a javelin indicating amilitary background. The surname in the Netherlands was Sandifort. This line traces through his 6th great grandson, John (Jan) Sandifort whoimmigrated to the United States in 1867. His son, Leonard JohnSanteford, was born 1867 in Cook County, IL. Leonard J and his wife, Fanny Brown (Fenje Bruin), were the grandparents ofthis member.
