Notes about Willem Tanis

Willem was nog geen69 jaar oud toen zijn moeder overleed. Zijn vader, visser van beroep, bleef met 6 kinderen achter. Deze kinderen werden ondergebracht bij familieleden. Willem werd bij zijn oom Pieter en zijn Tante Neeltje Griwis groot gebracht. Zij hadden een boerderij aan de Dijkstelweg nr. 6. Naar verluidt heeft Willem geen prettige jeugd gehad bij zijn oom en tante. Hij was volgens zeggen ook erg ondeugend.
Willem is net as zijn broer Gerrit gaan op de binnenvaart en later schipper geworden op de binnenvaarttanker de "Luctor" van dezelfde Belgische rederij als zijn broer Gerrit. Zijn vrouw Jeanne Romarievaarde na hun huwelijk ook mee en zijn zoon Pierre is later kenscht bij hem geworden.
Volgens Gert en Marie had Willem een ruim geweten en handelde hij soms voor zichzelf. Hij verkocht dan olie uit de tanker. Zijn halfbroer Maarten heeft tijdens zijn vakantie aan boord van de tanker van zijn halfbroer Gerrit, de Nijverheid, dit ook meegemaakt. Namelijk Willem vroeg aan zijn broer Gerrit of deze ook olie wilde verkopen, zodat hij een tankwagen kon laten komen. Maar gerrit wilde hierniet aan meedoen. Willem had in die tijd veel geld, maar zijn zoon Pierre heeft alles opgemaakt.
Na de dood van Jeanne Romanie heeft Willem nog met een andere vrouw samen geleefd. Met deze vrouw is hij op visite geweest bij zijn moeder aan de Visserstraat.
Willem had de laatste jaren een stijf been.
