    Biografie
    Woonde in Katwijk aan Zee, Secretaris Varkevisserstraat. Zoon van aannemer Hendrik Nicolaas van Leeuwen (18 april 1895 Katwijk – 4 december 1975) en Ida Didirica Zwanenburg (6 augustus 1895 Katwijk – 27 april 1996). Op 9 april 1945 schoot een Duitse militair de vijftienjarige jongen in Katwijk zonder enige waarschuwing neer. Volgens dokter Lodder, die eerste hulp verleende, was er niet sprake van direct levensgevaar. De arts achtte het echter wel nodig dat Dirk van Leeuwen de volgende dag naar het ziekenhuis werd overgebracht. Die dag overleed hij om drie uur 's middags in Leiden.

    Begraven op de Algemene Begraafplaats 'het Ouwe Graf' in Katwijk aan Zee.
