In de familiekroniek van zijn kleinzoon lezen wij over hem o.a. het volgende:
"Pieter is geboren in 1633, heeft ook de pest gehad, toen syn ouders daaraan gestorven sijn, dog door Godts' aanbiddelijke voorsienigheyd het nog te boven gekomen, al schoon men hem al voor doot rekende en sijn dootgoed al gereed lag. (Familiearchief inv. nr. 702). Sijn kindsche jaren te Bommel doorgebracht hebbende vertrok hij na Rotterdam, daar hy sijn ambacht (glasmaken en -schilderen) begon te leeren, vanwaar hij naar Delft vertrok, toen het buskruyd-magazijn aldaar op den 12e October 1654 seer ongelukkig opsprong, waardoor hij gelegenheyd hadde om syn ambagt te bevorderen. Vandaar is hij te middelburg gekoomen, alwaar hij in 1658 syn proeve gedaan heeft, 25 jaar oud synde als hij meester wierde."
