Notes about ir. Hendrik van Oordt

Hoofdingenieur-directeur bij Rijkswaterstaat (1e kl., 1917). In Heusden was hij belast met de bouw van een brug over de Maas; in Amsterdam met de werken aan het Noordzee-kanaal en daarna in Rotterdam aan de Nieuwe Waterweg. Te Middelburg, zijn standplaats vanaf 1913, was hij belast met o.a. de verbetering van de havens van Breskens en Vlissingen, van verschillende rijkswegen, en met de bouw van schutsluizen bij Hansweert en Wemeldinge. Eervol ontslagen (1930).
Hij was secretaris van de Staatscommissie voor het Reddingwezen (1907); lid van de Commissie inzake het overleg tot herziening van het Tractaat met België van 1839; lid van de Commissie van Advies inzake de Drinkwatervoorziening van Zeeuwsch-Vlaanderen (1919); enz.enz..
Lid van de Commissie van Toezicht op het Middelbaar Onderwijs te Rotterdam (1906-1912); regent van het Huis van Bewaring te Middelburg (1915-1930); lid van het Zeeuwsch Genootschap der Wetenschappen (1913).
Tussen 1900 en 1917 publiceerde hij verschillende artikelen in o.a. 'De Ingenieur'.
Officier in de Orde van Oranje-Nassau (1907); Ridder in de Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw (1910).
Hij was algemeen lid van het bestuur van de Vereeniging der Familie van Oordt en administrateur van de Stichting van den Balsem van Van Oordt. Een beschrijving van het werk van ir. Hendrik van Oordt, geschreven ter gelegenheid van zijn pensionering, is opgenomen in het gedenkboekje 1929-1930, blz.48.
