Notes about Gerrit Willems Westera

This man played a big part in our lives, as he was sire to both Willem
Westera (Rin 13) and Harmptje Boer (Rin 14). His son Willem was Rin 13's father
and his son Peter was Rin 14's grandfather.Gerrit Willems was 37 years old
when he married his first wife, Geertje Louws Post in 1785. She was a 26 year
old widow who owned a lot of land. They were married only 5 years when she
died. There are no records of children being born to this marriage. A year
later Gerrit married Aaltje Van't Oever who was only 22 years old but quite
rich in her own right. Her father was a wealthy cattleman and she inherited
a lot of land. The farm her parents and grandparents had lived on was named
'Groot Oever' which means Great Bank. It was from this land that her surname
came forth. With these two marriages Gerrit became one of the largest land
holders around Kampen. Listed in 1795 census as a cattleman and landowner.
Census named Aaltje, 2 children, a maid, a sister of Aaltje and the sister's
husband.
