Notes about Gerritje van Ginkel

Bevrijding

De bevrijding van Hoevelaken was in april en mei ’45 geen abc-tje. Terwijl Barneveld en Terschuur al bevrijd waren is er in deze maanden in Hoevelaken nog de nodige strijd geleverd. Net als het begin van de oorlog heeft Jan Heining ook de bevrijding als angstig ervaren. “Veel mensen waren vertrokken, het dorp uit. Mijn grootmoeder lag ziek, dus mijn vader wilde niet weg. Vanuit de schuilkelder bij de buren hoorden we de tanks langsrijden. Die hadden we hier nog nooit gezien en waren voor onze begrippen heel groot. Iedereen stond te juichen, maar de bevrijders gaven door middel van handgebaren aan dat we alert moesten blijven. Bij de tankwal, waar nu De Wiekslag is, zijn ze weer omgekeerd. Daarna is er in Hoevelaken nog veel strijd geweest. Veel boerderijen zijn nog moedwillig in brand gestoken. Later is ook de molen in vlammen opgegaan en is de kerktoren er nog afgeschoten”.

De datum 19 april 1945 staat bij de oude Hoevelakers in het geheugen gegrift als een dag waarop nog veel onheil is aangericht. Zo zag Evert Boekhout een viertal Duitsers op de vlucht. “Ze gingen door de diepste gedeeltes van de sloot en hebben vervolgens nog de boerderij van Joop Laseur in de fik gestoken, de flikkers. Verder is er in die laatste dagen in april veel vee onnodig omgekomen”.
