Maria Sophia is geboren toen haar moeder Cornelia Coevoet nog ongehuwd was . Later trouwde ze met Hubert Somers en werd het kind erkend en kreeg de achternaam Somers. Hubert Somers is geboren 15 april 1797 te Maastricht en was van beroep schoenmaker. Cornelia Koevoet ( Coevoet ) ( Koetvoet) was geboren in 1794. Bij een tegistratie in Delft hadden ze vijf kinderen.:
