Waarschijnlijk bedoelt u hiermee het streekje aan de Fluitenbergseweg "Hondgang"

Hondhang is een buurtschap in de gemeente Hoogeveen, in de Nederlandse provincie Drenthe.

Hondhang is gelegen aan de Fluitenbergseweg, waarbij de boerderij aan de Fluitenbergseweg 83 de naam Hondhang draagt. Voordat de naam Fluitenbergseweg was uitgegeven was het postadres Hondhang en werden boerderijen van toenmalig gemeente Echten aangeduid met de letter E (van Echten) gevolgd door een getal.

Een mogelijke verklaring voor de naam Hondhang zou kunnen zijn dat hier bewust (eens of meerdere malen) een dode hond werd opgehangen als afschrikwekkend voorbeeld. Wilde of ontsnapte ketting honden zaten achter het veen en vielen de schapen aan en doodden het vee. Een andere mogelijke verklaring is Hondhang op z'n Drents (lokale variant alhier in Ruinen/Echten), uitgesproken als Ond Ank (ondank). Het zou kunnen wijzen op een ondankbare streek of plek om je 'boterham' te verdienen. Een streek of plek die moeilijk bereikbaar was door de slechte infrastructuur.
