    Esther Marie Brummel werd geboren in het landelijke Leighton, Iowa op 28 november 1920, aan Henry en Bertha (Roorda) Brummel. Ze had een volle en lonende jeugd, de vierde geborene, met tien broers en zussen, 'hun eigen plezier maken'. Toen ze 14 jaar was toen ze naar de middelbare school in Oskaloosa ging, stierf Iowa, haar moeder. Na haar afstuderen werd Esther leraar op een middelbare school en begon haar carrière op Rock Island Country School.

    Op 22 december 1942 werd Esther verenigd in het huwelijk met de liefde van haar leven, Orville Gradus Bensink. Ze verhuisden naar Pella, Iowa, waar ze hun drie kinderen grootbrengen: Larry Orville, William Henry en Linda Beth. Haar kinderen waren gezegend om te leven in een tijd toen ze thuiskwamen van school, moeder was er altijd aan het wachten met een knuffel, een kus, een grote glimlach en een traktatie.

    Esther was een mooie naaister, die al meer dan 50 jaar honderden kinderen en volwassenen met Nederlandse kostuums uitrustte. Ze was een uitstekende kok en deelde dit talent in het Pella Sale Barn Cafe 'met haar heerlijke zelfgemaakte taarten, serveren bij kerkelijke activiteiten, en natuurlijk met haar familie. Telkens wanneer ze een behoefte zag, spreidde ze haar 'Spritz-koekjesbediening' uit. Toen haar kinderen op de universiteit zaten, begon ze bij De Jong Greenhouse te werken. Zij en Orville gaven altijd actieve en enthousiaste steun aan hun kinderen en waren altijd in de buurt wanneer ze nodig waren.

    Esther hield van het leven. Ze hield van Orville en ze hielden ervan samen tijd door te brengen. Ze hield van haar familie en hield van, hield van haar kleinkinderen en achterkleinkinderen. Esther en Orville werden toegewijde en leuke grootouders van vijf kleinkinderen en overgrootouders van recent negen achterkleinkinderen. Ze had het voorrecht om deze achterkleinkinderen in de laatste jaren van haar leven lief te hebben. Toen ze 93 was, begon ze te haken om deze kleine wondertjes te zegenen. Ze woonde haar laatste drie maanden om zich te verheugen over de geboortes van haar nieuwste drie achterkleinzonen. Een paar weken voor haar overlijden had ze de sensatie om haar pasgeboren achterkleinzoon vast te houden en te knuffelen.

    Esther deed op jonge leeftijd haar geloofsbelijdenis bij de ouderlingen van de hervormde Ebenezerkerk in Leighton. Zij en Orville waren lange tijd lid van de Eerste Hervormde Kerk in Pella. Toen Orville op 6 oktober 2012 stierf, na bijna 71 jaar huwelijk, wachtte Esther reikhalzend uit naar hereniging met hem in de hemel. Haar zoete geest, positieve instelling, levenslust en sterk geloof in onze Heer en Redder Jezus Christus stelde haar in staat om de obstakels van het leven te overwinnen. Ze was tevreden, blij en dankbaar, ze klaagde nooit, in alle situaties. De Heer noemde haar huis op 11 juli 2014 bij de huisjes die ze thuis noemde. Het was een goed leven, en om Esther zo vaak te citeren: "Het gaat goed!"

    Esther wordt overleefd door haar drie kinderen en hun gezinnen:

    Larry O. en Ling Bensink van Holland, Michigan; William H. en Marilyn Bensink van Salem, Oregon en hun twee kinderen: Revs. Carmen en Scott Bensink-Lewis en zoon, Gideon, Rebecca en Mark Butler en kinderen: Brooklyn en Isaac; Linda B. en Dr. Mark Recker van Pella, Iowa en hun drie kinderen: Dr. Eric en Amy Recker en kinderen: Blake en Jace, Dr. Bryan en Betsy Recker en kinderen: Kate, Jill en William, Hillary en Joel Storm en zoon, Liam.

    Van haar oorspronkelijke familie laat Esther een zus en twee broers en hun echtgenoten achter: Mildred en Ray De Zwarte van Eddyville, Iowa, Howard en Nancy Brummel van Monroe, Iowa, James en Marilyn Brummel van Oskaloosa, Iowa en een schoonzus , Edith (Virgil) Brummel uit Knoxville, Iowa.

    Ze werd voorafgegaan door de dood van haar man, Orville; haar ouders, Henry en Bertha Brummel; de volgende zusters en zwagers: Edna en Lester Klein, Bernice en Ed Goemaat, Clara en Henry Lanser, Ada en Carl Olson, Anna en Ben Groenendyk, Virginia en Herman Simons, haar broer, Virgil Brummel; en haar schoonouders, William en Elizabeth (Rietveld) Bensink.

    overgrootmoeder liefhadden, voor haar baden en voor haar zorgden, drukken we onze oprechte liefde en waardering uit." We houden van je, mama, oma, NiNana, en we zullen je weer zien!

    Begrafenisdiensten worden gehouden op

    woensdag 16 juli 2014 om 14.00 uur.
