De paardentram nam voor de omgeving een belangrijke plaats in. Er waren geen auto's, en de enige manier van transport buiten de tram was per boerenwagen of per glazen wagen. Van de tram werd dan ook een druk gebruik gemaakt, vooral op vrijdagals het marktdag was in Leeuwarden. Soms reden er 's morgens vroeg elf wagens achter elkaar naar Veenwouden om daar de trein of stoomtram naar Leeuwarden te halen. Vaste koetsiers waren Van der Velde en Klaas Zijlstra en vaste conducteurs Schaaf en Foppe Antonides, alle vier met een grote snor. à??????????n van de Halteplaatsen in Murmerwoude was de Kruisweg.
Concucteur Antonides maakte eens een hachelijk avontuur mee op de tram. Aan het eind van de eerste wereldoorlog in 1918 waren er vaak soldaten mee in de tram, die terugkwamen met verlof. Aan het eind van de oorlog waren die nogal opstandig. Toen heter iets te wild aan toe ging op het balkon van de tram kwam Antonides naar de soldaten toegelopen om de boel tot rust te manen. Maar n van de soldaten nam het geweer, zette dat met de kolf op de vloer van het balkon, haalde de trekker over en jaagde een kogel door het dak van de tram. Antonides liet de heren daarop haastig aan hun lot over.
