Heeft een sportief hoogtepunt beleefd met deelname aan de Olympische Spelen van 1936 te Berlijn. In deze XI-de editie van de Spelen bereikte hij met hardlopen de halve finale op de 100 mtr. heren, een 6e plaats bij de 200 mtr. heren maar is bij de 4 x 100 mtr. estafette heren gediskwalificeerd (samen met Berger, Boersma en Osendarp).De laatste heeft overigens Brons behaald bij de voorgaande twee onderdelen. Daarnaast was Wijnand finalist bij de EK in 1938 te Parijs, was drie maal Kampioen van Nederland, Open Engels kampioen. In 1977 pas werd Wijnand (Wil) geridderd in de Orde van Oranje-Nassau.

Na de topsport periode heeft Wil een carrière in het bedrijfsleven opgebouwd. Eerst als correspondent bij de Canine fabriek in Amsterdam, in de oorlogsjaren werkt hij bij het Wester Gasthuis als bedrijfsrechercheur, en bij het Kina bureau aan de Lairessestraat in Amsterdam. Na de oorlog werd hij redacteur bij de sportbladen `Sport en Sportwereld`en `Sportief', tevens was hij kort na de oorlog sportmedewerker bij de AVRO. Verhuisde in 1957 naar Emmen omdat hij bij de Drenste Courant als sportredacteur aangesteld werd, daarna kreeg hij de leiding over de afdeling Sport. Was in de vijftiger jaren als jeugdtrainer en conditietrainer actief bij het grote Ajax in Amsterdam.

Wijnand was tevens betrokken bij de oprichting van de organisatie "Sportieve hulp voor bejaarden". Toen de Sociale Dienst in Emmen van de grond kwam nam deze dienst de taken van deze organisatie over.
