Leon, 16 jaar ourd, studeerde aan de Technische Hogeschool te Delft, en werd lid van het Delftsche Studentencorps. Zijn laatste woonadres Oude Delft 47 te Delft (Zh) was een groot studentenhuis. Leon heeft zeer waarschijnlijk tesamen met zijn ouders Herman de Raay en Petronella Moscoviter een vergeefse poging ondernomen om naar Zwitserland te vluchten. In het Frans-Zwitserse grensgebied moeten ze zijn tegengehouden en in de gevangenis van Belfort (noordoost Frankrijk) zijn opgesloten.

Volgens de bron 'Mémorial de la Shoah' is Leon (volgens zijn registratiekaart) tesamen met zijn ouders op 07-09-1942 met transport no. 29 vanuit het Franse doorgangskamp Drancy (voorstad van Parijs) naar Auschwitz (PL) gedeporteerd. Ouders Herman en Petronella zijn aldaar direct na aankomst op 10-09-1942 vermoord.

Uit de transportlijst blijkt dat Leon nog ruim 9 maanden na aankomst (in Auschwitz ?) het leven bespaard is gebleven en eerst op 30-06-1943 'in Polen' is vermoord. Een en ander blijkt ook uit de overlijdens-akte Burgerlijke Stand Amsterdam dd. 16-05-1951.

Op 03-04-2024 om 12.30 uur zijn, ter nagedachtenis aan het lot van het gezin de Raaij-Moscoviter, 3 struikelstenen geplaatst voor hun laatste woonhuis in de Bisonstraat nr. 13 te Bussum (Nh).
