Salomon van Berg, geb. 1-7-1906 Opsterland, overl. 4-6-1991 Blaricum, is de zoon van de boterhandelaar (zijn grootvader heeft hetzelfde beroep) Meijer van Berg en Esther Spinoza Catella Jessurun. Zijn ouders trouwen op 15-8-1901 te Amsterdam. Het is een huwelijk van iemand uit een Duits-joodse familie en iemand uit een Portugees-joodse familie. Zulke joods-religieus gemengde huwelijken kwamen rond 1900 weinig voor. Daarvoor zagen toen veel Sephardische joden zich als een exclusieve groep.

Salomon van Berg wordt handelaar in tabak. Hij komt in februari vanuit Alkmaar naar Amsterdam en vertrekt in december 1927 voor een half jaar naar Londen. Op 17-10-1934 trouwt hij te Amsterdam met de tandartsassistente Susanna Maria Elisabeth Nuss, geb. 21-11-1908 Haarlem, overl. 17-12-1982 Amsterdam. Ze stamt uit een rooms-katholieke familie. Ze is de dochter van de koopman Josephus Maria Hubertus Nuss en Maria Sophia van Wilpe. Haar ouders trouwen op 25-9-1907 te Nieuwer-Amstel.

De oudste dochter is Marguerite Mathilda, geb. 12-5-1938 Amsterdam, overl. 24-1-1945 Amsterdam. Van haar bestaat een reeks fotos (zie bijvoorbeeld scan 010164012154). Na de Tweede Wereldoorlog worden nog twee dochters geboren van wie de gegevens niet openbaar zijn. Als joodse man gehuwd met een niet-joodse vrouw was er een kans om de Duitse bezetting te overleven, maar voor velen heeft dat toch niet gegolden. Voor Salomon van Berg wel.

Salomon wordt handelaar in tabak in Amsterdam, trouwt met Susanna Nuss en krijgt een dochtertje. Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog komt hij in een werkkamp terecht. Hij overleeft het kamp, maar zijn twee broers worden in de oorlog vermoord en aan tegen het einde van de oorlog (januari 1945) sterft ook zijn enige kind.
