Kalden was lange tijd schepen en buurmeester, komt ook voor als ouderling, zoon van Lodewijk Kalden, tollenaar. Hij was 4 mei 1679 getrouwd met Jenneke Stenis, gedoopt Vreeswijk 2 augustus 1649. Na het overlijden van zijn schoonvader Coenraad Stenis werd hij in diens plaats commissaris van het Rijnschuitenveer.
