Klaas en Fijgje woonden aan de Busselterweg 25 in het huis van Hendrik ten Oever en Margje Oosterhof, die het huis in 1874 stichtte. Van 1947 tot 1949 woonden Martijn Steffens en Eltje met hun dochter Aaltje bij hen in.
Ook hun ongetrouwde zoon Cornelis woonde nog bij hen in, maar die betrok in 1956 een nieuw huis aan de Bisschopsbergweg nr. 2 op de Havelterberg. Na het overlijden van Klaas woonde Fijgje een tijdje bij haar zoon Cornelis.De dochter van hun oudste zoon Jacob, Berendje Tuit, gehuwd met Klaas Bouwknegt, namen de boerderij over, die echter op 25 maart 1968 door brand werd verwoest, daarbij zijn 17 stuks rundvee omkwamen. In het zelfde jaar werd de boerderij in
moderne stijl herbouwd.

Aan de boerderij op de Busselterweg had Fijgje een tijd een klein winkeltje om wat extra's te kunnen verdienen, want haar man Klaas was tamelijk ziekelijk, en had geen sterk gestel. Ze verkocht daar eieren en koffie. Die koffie kocht ze in
bij xxxxx in Meppel; die moest ze dan zelf ophalen en soms nam ze haar dochter Eltje meer.
Veel van het boerenwerk kwam op de kinderen en de aanhang neer. Als het oogsttijd was hielp de hele familie mee om al het werk uit te voeren.
Fijgje ging elke maandag lopend naar de markt in Steenwijk met een mand vol eieren. Ze verkocht ze bij een kraampje voor de winkel van Ketel. Soms verkocht ze de eieren aan de bakker aan de overkant van de markt.Fijgje was een ondernemende vrouw, die als eerste op Busselte met een echte naaimachine. Die naaaimachine had ze overigens op afbetaling gekocht bij Draaisma's naaimachinehandel in de Onnastraat in Steenwijk. Wel wekelijks geld komen brenge
n natuurlijk.
Ook was ze bemiddelaar voor de verkoop van behang, voor een winkel in Steenwijk. Zij haalde het monsterboek op en liet dat rondgaan op Busselte; dat leverde weer een paar cent op.
