Hallo Berry,
Zijn grootvader Douwe Wibrandies van der Heide was getrouwd met Ykje Roelofs Steenstra. Die Steenstra's zijn weer familie van mijn grootmoeder Ietje Steenstra, vandaar. Dus ver weg.
Weet u misschien meer over Wolter Jeens want het heeft mij wel geïntrigeerd waarom hij op 18-jarige leeftijd in Stettin, Polen is overleden? Was hij misschien aangesloten bij de Jeugdstorm of iets dergelijks? Ik ben nogal geïnteresseerd in WOII vandaar.

Beste Henk,
Dan zijn we verre familie, Wolter zijn zus was mijn oma.
Voor zover ik weet is Wolter min of meer gedwongen door zijn vader, om vrijwillig als 'Sturmman' dienst te nemen bij de SS. Wolter is toen dusdanig gewond geraakt dat hij daar (in Polen of Rusland, dat weet ik niet) is gestorven op waarschijnlijk 15 maart 1945. Hij is toen waarschijnlijk als onbekende soldaat overgebracht naar de oorlogsbegraafplaats Stare Czarnowo. Stare Czarnowo is de laatste rustplaats voor Duitse soldaten die tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog in Polen overleden.
Ik ben nog bezig te achterhalen of hij een eigen rustplaats heeft of in een collectief graf is begraven.
