Als eerste Volendammer alpinist beoefende en zette hij zich in voor verscheidene sporten. Na zijn voetballoopbaan was hij leraar lichamelijke oefening. Hij was voetbalcoach van de profclubs http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/FC_Hilversum">FC Hilversum en http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/FC_Blauw-Wit_Amsterdam">Blauw-Wit en verschillende amateurverenigingen. Ook geldt hij als (mede)oprichter van onder andere Badmintonclub Waterland, Basketbalvereniging Volendam en Volleybalclub Volendam. In seizoen 1981/82 was hij hoofdtrainer van FC Volendam.

    Dick Maurer (Kick) werd geboren op 31 mei 1932 in Amsterdam. Als 16-jarige maakte hij zijn debuut in het eerste elftal van Volendam. Hij viel op en mocht voor een kans gaan bij Ajax. Hij trainde onder Jack Reynolds, samen met Rinus Michels, maar keerde vanwege de lange dagen in Amsterdam op zijn 18e weer terug bij zijn oude club.
