    Thames Veerman legde in 1918 de basis voor Veerman Wooncentrum. Aan het Zuideinde, op de Volendamse Dijk, begon hij met de handel in garen, knopen, stoelen en tafels. Daarnaast runde hij een kruidenierszaak. Toen zoon Sijmen de leiding overnam, zette hij de meubelzaak echt op de kaart. De collectie groeide snel en er werd verhuisd naar een grotere locatie aan de Mgr. Veermanlaan. Met kenmerkende Volendammer nuchterheid verwierf de meubel- en interieurzaak grote bekendheid in de regio onder de naam 'Sijmen van Grietje Mol'.
