    In het huisje rechts met de waterbak voor de houten voorgevel, woonde het gezin Jacob Veerman, "Jaap van Dat", en Lijsbeth (Lijssie) Schout. Jaap was een zoon van Jacob Veerman en Arisje Schilder en werd geboren op 16 januari 1875; Lijsbeth was een dochter van Comelis Klaaszoon Schout en Trijntje Kieft en was geboren op 6 mei 1876. Zij trouwden op 7 augustus 1904. Jaap van Dat heeft zijn levenlang als vissersknecht gevaren bij Hein Steur, "Hein van de Kriel", op de VD39.

    Jaap van Dat en Lijstje Schout hadden dus geen nakomelingen. En Lijstje was de laaste Schout; in Volendam is het geslacht Schout Schouten uitgestorven. Kees Veerman "van Dat" is als enige nog in leven. Hij wist zich te herinneren, dat het huishouden zich geheel beneden afspeelde. Ouders en kinderen sliepen in bedsteden, op de bovenverdieping werd niet geslapen. Die werd gebruikt als opslagruimte, mogelijk van turf voor de kachel. In de waterbak werd regenwater vergaard, dat werd gebruikt voor het koken van de was, beslist niet voor het koken van het eten. In circa 1920 kreeg de familie waterleiding en kwam er een kraan in het voorportaaltje. Dat moest natuurlijk eerst wennen; Lijssie bleef haar pannen en schalen spoelen in de sloot, zeker bang dat het water in de kraan op zou raken. Op herhaald advies van de buren gebruikte zij daar tenslotte het leidingwater voor. In het midden van de kamer stond de potkachel met de kachelpijp naar boven door het plafond naar buiten. Toen Kees in het begin van 1960 vanuit zijn missiepost in Afrika op vakantie naar Volendam kwam en zijn moeder opzocht, viel bij het openen van de voordeur de gloeiend hete kachelpijp spontaan naar beneden. Met veel pijn en moeite kon deze weer op zijn plaats worden aangebracht. Maar zijn moeder kon natuurlijk niet zo blijven wonen. Kees nam daarom kontact op met het bestuur van het bejaardenhuis en kort daarna verhuisde Lijstje naar de Sint Nicolaashof.
