Piloersema bij Den Ham is in 1633 gebouwd. Het heeft de vorm van eensteenhuis, het begin van vele borgen. Het huidige Piloersema is echter geensteenhuis. Johan de Mepsche, lid van de Ommelander adel, erfde in 1576 Piloersema en heeft er gewoond. Zijn kleinzoon Johan de Mepsche is de bouwheer van het huidige huis. De gevelsteen in de stalmuur vermeldt dat de schuren in 1702 zijn gebouwd. De laatste eigenaren, J.T. Wierenga en zijn echtgenote hebben de borg in 1991 nagelaten aan de Wierenga van Hamsterborg Stichting. De borg is in 1998 gerestaureerd en in gebruik als vergadercentrum. Ook kan men er logeren in karakteristieke gastenverblijven. De Vrienden van de Hamsterborg verzorgen de levende have die nog in de boerderij aanwezig is.
