Oma Jonge Vos-Huijser Haar broer Jan was in 1914 gedeserteerd en naar Zuid Afrika geëmigreerd. Het verhaal gaat, dat hij op reis naar Zuid Afrika slaags raakte met de kapitein die -naar zijn idee- een passagier onrechtvaardig behandelde. Hij wist later te ontsnappen door voor de kust van boord te springen.
Heintje was een helderziende vrouw, een zeer sterke persoonlijkheid en zij hield zich bezig met spiritisme. Toen hun winkel niet zo best liep heeft zij zich (noodgedwongen) ook met waarzeggen bezig gehouden. Zij werd eens uitgedaagd door een collega van opa Hendrik, waarop zij reageerde : "Het is beter, dat maar niet te doen" en vervolgens: "Ach,
gaat u toch naar uw vrouw toe en laat die griet in de steek."
Eén van haar kleindochters, Carla kreeg de bijnaam "Juffer de bonk".
De drie zonen krijgen niet de kans hun favoriete beroep uit te kiezen: Harry wou op zee, maar
werd schoenhandelaar/boekhouder; Karel en Jan vergelijkbaar.
