Notes about Hugo III van Bourgondie

Hugo III van Bourgondie (1148 - Tyrus, 1192) was de oudste zoon van hertog Odo II van Bourgondie en Maria van Blois. In 1162 volgde hij zijn vader op als hertog van Bourgondie, in het begin onder de voogdij van zijn moeder.
Hij bevocht de graaf van Chalon in 1166, geholpen door Lodewijk VII van Frankrijk, en trok daarna naar het Heilig Land om er te vechten. Terug in Frankrijk vocht hij tegen de graaf van Nevers (1174), en tegen de heer van Vergy. Na de val van Jeruzalem, engageerde hij zich in de Derde Kruistocht, en nam deel aan de slag van Ashkelon en de inname van Akko. Hij streed aan de zijde van Richard Leeuwenhart, maar sneuvelde in Tyrus.
Hij huwde met:
Adelheid van Lotharingen (1145-1200), dochter van hertog Mattheus I van Lotharingen, in 1165, en verstootte haar in 1183,
Beatrix van Albon (1161-1228), dochter van Guigo V van Albon, dauphin van Viennois, in 1183,
en werd vader van:
Odo III van Bourgondie (1166-1218)
Alexander (1170-1205), heer van Montagu, stichter van de linie van de heren van Montagu
Douce (1175-), in 1196 gehuwd met heer Simon van Semur (-1219)
Adelheid (1177-), gehuwd met heer Beraud VII van Mercoeur
Andreas, Guigo VI van Viennois (1184-1237), dauphin van de Viennois
Mathilde (1190-1242), in 1214 gehuwd met Jan I (1190-1267), graaf van Chalon en van Auxonne
