De naam is een verbastering van "Moeyelijcker", later in "Moeliker","Moeleker" of Moelker. Uit het geslacht van Jacob Moeyelijcker komen 5 kinderen voort. In 1632 komt voor het eerst in Thoolse archieven de naam "Moeylick" voor als Adriaen Jacobs Moeylick zijn entreegeld voor het schippersgilde betaalt. Omdat de broers Jan, Willem en Rochus deze naam ook gebruiken kan worden aangenomen dat hun vader Jacob de achternaam eveneens heeft gehanteerd. Diverse bronnen geven aan dat de vier broers geboren zijn in de stad Reimerswaal.
