She was united in marriage to Dennis Swygman. They later divorced. Karla worked for over 30 years at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly within several different departments. On Dec. 23, 1999, she was united in marriage to Ray Happel in Waverly. The couple made their home in Waverly until Ray passed away on Sept. 30, 2008. Karla continued to work at Bartels until her retirement in 2012.
