Notes about Petrus Claaszn "Peter" Smits

Raadhuis/Kerk - 1765 Drunen -

Een tekening van de St.Lambertuskerk van Drunen, waarin, van zeker voor 1744, tot 1767 het raadhuis was gevestigd. De kerk heeft gestaan bij het huidige kerkhof aan de Jac.v.d.Meijdenstraat. Op de tekening zijn de kruispanden nog te zien welke in 1767 werden afgebroken.

Vroeger hadden de kleine gemeentes geen raadhuis, en werd er vergaderd in een herberg of kerk ed. Het oostkoor van de kerk was tot dienst van de dorpsgemeente, en diende ook als raadkamer. Hier stond ook het dorpsarchief.

Ten noorden van het oostkoor is in 1744 een gevangenis gekomen (voor quaadwillige persoonen) Na 1767 huurde men een kamer bij de plaatselijke bierbrouwer Martinus van Loon
