Hij werd cadet op 25.3.1754 vaandrig op 3.8.1763 sous lieutenant 8.11.1765 en capitein bij de Staatsarmee 6.5.1768. als vaandrig was hij in 1763 vertrokken naar de Barbice, waar hij vocht tegen de Guanger negers en daarbij twee wonden ontving aan het hoofd en een aan het rechterbeen. In 1765 keerde hij naar Nederland terug en omstreeks die tijd huwde hij met Catharina Cranssen. Op 22.3.1771 verleende de Raad van State hem commissie als Majoor van het Fort Boertange. Den 31.5.1774 als Commies van 's Lands Magazijnen in de Boertange. De missie van deze charge ontving hij als oranjegezind den 31.10.1797. Tot aan 14.5.1810 bleef hij wonen in Boertange alwaar zijn vrouw inmiddels overleed. Toen vertrok hij naar Gaas
t, een zeedorp bij Workum in Friesland trouwde ca. 1765 Catharina Cranssen ovl. Boertange voor 14.10.1810 dr.v. Willem Cranssen, secretaris der Stad Groningen en Rica Boelaerd.
